Graduate Administrator /Assistant Environmental Consultant

  • Hours: Full Time (12-month contract with the possibility of becoming permanent)
  • Salary: £23K-£27K

We are looking for an enthusiastic, practical, motivated administrator/ Assistant Environmental Consultant to join our growing, friendly team.  The role is to support our Environmental Consultants in all aspect of their role.

Job Role

In this role you will report directly to our Environmental Director as well as working closing with our team of Environmental Consultants. You will support the team in all aspect of their day-to-day activities, helping them with project work from proposal preparation desk-based assessment through to preparation of final reports. This is primarily a supportive role in delivery of projects with the opportunity to develop professional and technical skills. You will need to be confident in talking on the phone and well-organised. Excellent communication skills and attention to detail are important in this role.

Role competencies and experience:

  • A degree in related subject or experience in relevant field is required
  • Proactive confident communicator with a friendly, collaborative and innovative attitude
  • Good IT literacy (MS Office at least and QGIS would be an advantage, but training will be given)
  • Well-organised and high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Positive, proactive attitude with a willingness to learn
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally
  • A UK Driving licence is required

About the Role

In this role you will be involved with all aspects of project work from proposal preparation, desk-based assessment, field work and through to preparation of final reports incorporating mitigation solutions.

Your day to day activities will include technical analysis, practical problem solving and report writing and review. You will provide advice to clients and act as their interface with Regulatory Authorities. You will manage multiple projects at any time ensuring high quality deliverables within budget and timeframe.

Mentoring of more junior staff and reviewing their work will also be a key responsibility for the successful candidate.

We appreciate that there is no formal training course that prepares you for a role with us, and so all specific technical training will be provided. We pride ourselves in assisting our team to develop areas of particular interest that they might have, allowing space and time to actively engage with the wider industry community and stay abreast of latest industry developments.

What we are looking for:

Nutrient Neutrality is a novel developing industry that draws upon multi-disciplinary skills, so we are looking for a Senior Environmental Consultant with experience within any of the following disciplines; hydrology, geo-environmental science, geography, engineering, ecology or agricultural land management.

We need a professional, competent individual who can provide technical expertise, team leadership, client relationship and project management.

You will have the following qualifications and experience:

  • BSc and/or significant industry experience in a relevant field is required
  • A minimum 3 years+ experience, preferably in consultancy in the UK
  • Project management experience is essential
  • Experience in managing and training early career staff would be beneficial
  • Good IT literacy (MS Office, QGIS at least)
  • UK Driving licence is required
  • Proactive confident communicator
  • Good commercial awareness and client relationship management skills
  • Excellent report-writing and technical proofing skills
  • Track record in getting projects to completion and achieving deadlines
  • Chartered or a desire to work towards chartership with a relevant institution,
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution e.g. CIWEM, CIEEM
  • Attention to detail and genuine desire to deliver work to the highest standard
  • A passion to improve the environment
