Phil Hayhoe
Office Manager

With over 10 years’ experience in finance and office administration behind him, Phil joined the Nutrient Neutral team in 2023. His main duties include the day-to-day running of the office, project setup and support and producing GIS maps, and putting his methodical and detail-oriented approach to good use in helping to organise and streamline the rapid expansion of the business.

In his spare time, Phil enjoys volunteering and spending time at his allotment and in his garden with his wife Rachael and their 3 dogs. He has also taken on the challenging task of learning Welsh, which is coming in very handy with the increasing number of projects taking place in Wales!

Rachel Wright
Environmental Consultant

Rachel has been with us since Autumn 2022. After almost 30 years working in education, Rachel decided it was time for a change and sought out a new challenge. As a passionate environmentalist, with an academic background in geography and newly acquired proofreading training, Nutrient Neutral proved to be the ideal place to start that second career.

Rachel undertakes nutrient assessments, report preparation and proofreads all documents.

Rachel currently works part-time; she couldn’t completely let go of the education side so she also teaches adults in community learning courses. In her free-time, Rachel enjoys walking in the Ironbridge Gorge where she lives and is learning all the skills needed to develop and maintain a garden!

Simon Longworth
Environmental Consultant

Simon very recently joined us following the completion of his Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences at Aberystwyth University. His research interests in nature-based solutions to achieving nutrient neutrality, underpinned by his desire to demonstrate the potential of re-purposing ‘waste’ products, led him to be awarded the best science dissertation within his department. He has notable experience in fieldwork operations, environmental data collection and report writing; with projects ranging from hydrogeological assessments of glacial fjords in Norway to wildlife surveying of peatland bogs in Wales. Simon’s ambitions are to continue advancing novel ideas and bespoke solutions to achieving nutrient neutrality, keeping up to date with the latest technologies through conferences and science journals.

When winding down, Simon enjoys being outdoors, either hiking around the Welsh countryside or doing a spot of landscape art; as long as he’s somewhere green and blue, he’s happy! He also helps collate freshwater quality data for the citizen science project – ‘Friends of the Upper Wye’, providing useful insight into the ecological status of the Wye catchment.

Abigail Carnegie
Consultant

Abigail joined us following A-Levels to follow a vocational route to professional qualifications. She is a hardworking valued member of the team, who is passionate about the natural environment. She has a thorough understanding of nutrient neutrality and all associated calculators and quirks of all the affected areas, she has notable experience in nutrient assessments and mitigation solution development, fieldwork and report writing. She is excited to continue her career in environmental consulting and applying her knowledge to the world of nutrient neutrality.

Sean will be learning all the quirks of nutrient assessment has already mastered GIS drawing preparation. He is keen to enhance catchment assessments for nature-based solution through statistical analysis.

When not working or studying, Sean can usually be found in the gym.

Testimonials

“Sarah and her team at Nutrient Neutral are our first port of call for external consultancy assistance with dealing with issues relating to phosphate / nitrate mitigation as part of the planning application process. Their expert guidance has assisted us to move forward sites (on behalf of our clients) that would otherwise have been stagnated. We highly recommend their services, and we will continue to work alongside them moving forwards.”
